What is a Terpene?

History?
Discovered in 1855 by a German Chemist, there are over 30,000 Terpenes discovered so far. Terpenes are abundant in the leaves, flowers, stems, and roots of plants. Terpenoidal molecules are antifungal, antimicrobial, antiviral, and antiparasitic.
What are they?
