What is a Terpene?

Chances are you've never heard of these magical compounds before. Drop down to find out more.

History?

Discovered in 1855 by a German Chemist, there are over 30,000 Terpenes discovered so far. Terpenes are abundant in the leaves, flowers, stems, and roots of plants. Terpenoidal molecules are antifungal, antimicrobial, antiviral, and antiparasitic.

What are they?

Terpenes are not well known, but they are the largest and most diverse group of naturally occurring compounds in plants. These chemicals are responsible for the fragrances, aromatics and flavours of the plant. Some of the most common sources are cannabis, aromatics herbs and citrus fruits.

How can they help?

Because terpenes produce vibrant smells, they form the basis of many essential oils and are an integral part of many alternative therapies, such as Aromatherapy. Inhaling the scents may affect a person’s mood and stress levels.

How to Use?

(1) Dropped under the tongue (2) Diluted in water / juice or tea (3) Rubbed topically into pulse points and sore muscles (4) Inhaled directly from the bottle (5) Dropped into diffuser
